Hello Fellow Camp Cooks! I just joined after stumbling upon the forum while searching on some Dutch oven and camp cooking topics. This looks like a friendly place to hang out, chat, and learn from each other. My story...

I have been cooking outdoors since my scouting days in some form or fashion for almost 50 years, Mostly campfire and grilling until about 15 years ago. I ran into Colleen Sloan (Log Cabin Grub) at a small Dutch Oven cook-off in our community. I hung around and talked with Colleen, bought a cookbook, and I got the bug. I got a 12" Lodge and I was off and running. I have since added a few more DO's. I have been doing hunting camp cooking, cooking for small groups at meetings, and work events. I recently retired and hope to get more involved and maybe even staring a side adventure of DO catering but mostly just for fun.

There is nothing like smoke, black iron, and great smelling food!

Your plans for retirement sound like mine :-) I totally agree with your statement "There is nothing like smoke, black iron and great smelling food!".

I found this site when I first got into cooking in DO's and it is a wealth of information and great people.

Welcome!!

We may have to compare notes sometime! After 35 years in a career I am still feeling my way for new purpose and adventures. We are currently selling a house, buying a house and planning a move. I just wish I was in camp cooking!

WELCOME from across the line in NEBRASKA! Wink We sound like we're both paddlin' the same canoe.....recently retired, been cooking in the black pots since being in Boy Scouts.....I'm an OLD Eagle Scout & Scoutmaster, so I guess it's a common affliction for those of us with that background.

Have you been baking much bread yet? We've been using our 12" deep for that task.....works perfectly! I have decided that if I could have only ONE oven Frightened THAT would be the one......great for loaf bread, roasting whole chickens, cakes, etc. Thumbs Up
