I have a lead on a 5` tall manual operated hammer. I have no idea or knowledge
of this type of blacksmiths tool. There is also lots of other tools there. It has been sitting in a garage for 20 years and the people want to get rid of it. The tools are about 1000 miles from me in Pa. I have not seen any of it nor do I have any photos. All I have is great hopes that it will all come my way. Back to what I am asking about the manual hammer are they any good and how do they work? I thank you for any info.

Thanks Paul that is a good site with a lot of good reading.
I only wish it would get cool so I can start with my new tools. Heck it is so hot outside I am not using my cast iron.

Does it have a brand name?
Where in Pa is it?
If its a treadle hammer and you have knee problems it may be difficult to operate.

This is what comes to mind when I think of a 5' manual hammer...

Are you over at I Forge Iron? I use the same user ID there as here (and everywhere else!)

That's kind of cool: Joanne is over at Expedition Portal, too. I wonder how many others overlap on other forums.
